Competition Alley

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Competition Alley is the last street left from when the town of Chatham was — from 1807 until about 1852 — known as Competition. Located between Simpson Funeral Museum and Pittsylvania County Community Action on Main Street, it connects Main and Carter streets in Chatham.  Chatham First, a local group, raised more than $100,000 last fall and winter from businesses, individuals and civic organizations for the project.

IMPACT STATEMENT

Donors for this projects included the town of Chatham, the Danville Regional Foundation, Chatham Rotary Club, Chatham Lions Club, Chatham First and the Pittsylvania Historical Society.  We wanted to donate to this project in continuation of the beautification of the Town of Chatham. It also gives the community a place to hold events like the Farmers Markets and Poetry Readings.
