Pittsylvania County Literacy Program

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Learning after secondary school as a mature aged student allows adults to develop valuable skills to improve career prospects and expand their professional knowledge. Developing literacy and numeracy skills in adulthood also gives individuals a better ability to reach their full potential. Individual students work with tutors to set their goals which may include GED assistance, Math skills, Reading improvement, or any identified goal.

IMPACT STATEMENT

It is a nearly impossible task to imagine navigating the world around us today without reading skills.  And yet there are those, right in our own community, that need the assistance to learn better reading skills.  Along with this important reason, there are other advantages to reading:

Mental Stimulation
Stress Reduction
Knowledge
Vocabulary Expansion
Memory Improvement
Stronger Analytical Thinking Skills
Improved Focus and Concentration
