Japanese Earthquake & Tsunami Disaster

YEAR: 2011
Approximate Donation Value:  $10,000

PROJECT OVERVIEW

On March 11, 2011, a magnitude-9 earthquake shook northeastern Japan, unleashing a savage tsunami. The tsunami resulted in the second worst nuclear accident in the history of nuclear power generation - the Fukushima Nuclear Facilities.  The effects of the great earthquake were felt around the world, from Norway's fjords to Antarctica's ice sheet. Tsunami debris has continued to wash up on North American beaches years later.

IMPACT STATEMENT

We still remember that awful day and the vivid images on TV showing the flooding catastrophe...and it was to get worse when it was reported that the Fukushima Nuclear Plant had been badly damaged.  Thanks to the generosity of Chatham Rotary Club member Ms. Hayako Cook, we were able to send financial aid to the region.
