At the noon meeting on June 6, the Chatham Rotary Club 2017 hosted Janice Wilkins, a fellow Rotarian from the Stuart, Virginia Rotary Club. Her husband Alex Wilkins, also a fellow Rotarian and prior District Governor for Rotary District 7570 joined her.
Janice Rotary District 7570 Director for the District CART Project, presented a very informative and important program on CART, Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust. CART is a Project of the Rotary Clubs of North America promoting research for the cure of Alzheimer’s Disease.
In October 1995 the Rotary Club of Sumter South Carolina initiated a pilot CART effort by conducting an eight month testing program of collecting coins for Alzheimer’s Research. CART began by asking Rotarians to give the coins in their pockets at the Rotary meetings.
Today, Cart has been adopted as a project by fifteen Rotary Districts in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. As of May 2016, CART has awarded $5.8 million in research grants. At the June 6th meeting, the Chatham Rotary Club presented a check for $2000 to Janice for CART. The funds awarded by Chatham Rotary were raised at our recent Casino Night Auction here in Chatham. Chatham Rotarian Hy Cook, also added a check for $500 that was given to Janice for CART.
Another Highlight of the program was the presentation to Donna Yeatts of her Paul Harris Plus Four Award Pin. Donna is a past President of the Chatham Rotary Club and is very active in all the Club activities.
