Silas Moore Park Project

The Club partnered with The Danville Regional Foundation and Chatham First to renovate Silas Moore Park, a community park long in need of upgrading.  Significant in this project was the Club’s submission of and receipt of a matching grant by the Rotary District 7570.
Through the Club’s effort $8,000 was provided to fund the renovation.

Our project began September 14, 2016.  We held four scheduled work days to complete our project with Chatham Rotary members providing the people-power for the renovation which included painting four existing picnic tables, pressure washing the covered shelter, painting existing grills.  In addition, Chatham Rotary purchased two new powder coated picnic tables, two camp stoves/grills, a water fountain with handicap access, and a trash receptacle.

The partnership with the Danville Regional Foundation also provided new playground equipment and a brand-new basketball court with top of the line goals. The ribbon cutting ceremony was held Saturday, November 5.

As we continue the project this spring, bathrooms and a concession stand will be added to the renovated community park.  Updating this park allows a safe, well equipped location for the community to enjoy picnics and a wellness area for a wide range age group to participate on the playground equipment and a basketball court that is used by youth and adults alike.

Members of Chatham Rotary could not resist the opportunity to show off their basketball skills.  Coleman Yeatts (L) and Dick Camp (R) were especially impressive with their shooting skills.
